  14. This program reports scan and ASCII codes returned whenever the int 16h
  15. BIOS function is invoked, as well as the value left in the keyboard BIOS,
  16. when any valid key combination is used.
  17.  
  18. As such, ScanCode Show is most useful to programmers, though it's also a
  19. toy for the curious.  It gives an accurate portrayal of which keystrokes are
  20. available on your system, i.e. which combinations are recognized by your
  21. keyboard and system BIOS, and which are recognized by int 16h.
  22.  
  23. This, the smallest such program I've seen, boasts more features than the
  24. others.  The calling keystroke is accurately identified, where possible.
  25. Scan and ASCII codes are presented in hex and decimal, their combined AX
  26. value and the BIOS value in hex, in the form of a scrolling display that
  27. may be printed out at any time.

  29. Some keystrokes may not produce a scan code through int 16h, with a
  30. particular keyboard/system combination.  For example, pressing F11 should
  31. put the value 8500h into AX when int 16h is called, but doesn't do so on
  32. my system, or on many others.  However, examining the BIOS directly shows
  33. that F11 can indeed be recognized.

  38. This program is produced by a member of the Association of Shareware
  39. Professionals (ASP).  ASP wants to make sure that the shareware principle

  56. ScanCode Show was written in assembly language and compiled using the
  57. Wolfware Assembler by Eric Tauck, a fine, inexpensive, and easy-to-use
  58. assembler program.  The annotated source code for ScanCode Show is available
  59. from myself for a fee of $5.00 (U.S. or Canadian):  please specify 3.5 or
  60. 5.25" floppy disk.  While this source code may not be modified except with
  61. my express permission, it can provide a starting point for an aspiring
  62. programmer, and you're welcome to learn from it what you can.

  67. My program BIOS Reporter is the companion program to ScanCode Show, and will
  68. soon be distributed as freeware.  Program and source code are again
  69. available for $5.00, from myself.  The program itself may be found on the

  73.     BIOS data area; can be run as pop-up TSR to report changes to BIOS
  74.     values while a second program is running.  Allows printing

  76. Finally, if you're at all into growing plants, and in particular want to
  77. know just how to propagate a favourite specimen, check out:

  79.     GROW'EM - The definitive program on propagating plants from
  80.     seeds, cuttings, by layering, etc.  Features over 200 species,
  81.     most propagating techniques in depth, and detailed info on
  82.     growth media, composting, lighting, etc.  Easy-to-use resource,
  83.     illustrated with sketches and photos, runs well under DOS or
  84.     Windows.  Requires VGA, 1.6 MB hard disk space free

  86. The shareware version of this program is available on Compuserve, Exec-PC,
  87. ASP-associated bulletin boards and from ASP-associated vendors, and on
  88. various Internet FTP sites, including Simtel and its mirror sites, and
  89. I'm also happy to send you a copy of the *shareware* version for $5.00 U.S.
  90. or Canadian, which basically covers my costs.  If you ask to receive the
  91. source code for ScanCode Show, you'll automatically receive this shareware
  92. program on the same disk.

  94. The registered version comes in VGA and SVGA flavours, and is in look, feel
  95. and function identical to the shareware program.  However, it features
  96. detailed growing information on well over 350 species and is better
  97. illustrated with sketches and sharp photographic images; the original text
  98. has also been expanded and made more readable, and extra topics have been
  99. added.  About 3 MB free hard drive space is required.
